Great Ideas for a Summer Toronto Staycation!

Vacation? How about a staycation? Save money and never leave the comfort of your home city!

Staycations are all the rage these days. More accessible, more affordable, and definitely a lot less time consuming than its more far flung cousin, a few days off in the local area can be just what you need to recharge your batteries and see your city from a different perspective.

And Toronto is one of the best places on the planet to do it!

One of the world’s most cosmopolitan metropolises, Toronto is home to world class food, attractions, and entertainment, so there is no shortage of awesome things to do in the city. Alone, with a partner, or with the whole family, you are sure to find something that makes your staycation one to remember!

Ride the TTC streetcars through ethnic neighbourhoods

Toronto is consistently ranked as one of the most cosmopolitan cities on Earth, which means there is no shortage of amazing ethnic neighbourhoods to view (and eat in!). Get yourself a TTC pass and ride the streetcars through Little India and Koreatown, and watch as these vibrant centres come alive in the summer weather. Make sure to stop for some chicken korma along the way while you’re at it.

Go to the top of the CN Tower

“Towering” over Toronto and Lake Ontario at a soaring 550 metres high, the CN Tower is Canada’s most famous landmark. Chances are you’ve already been up to the top, but there is no reason not to go again. The view is breathtaking and the experience is pure magic. The sweeping view allows you to peer across the metropolitan area and even into New York State on a clear day. A Toronto CityPass will save you extra on admission, too!

Take a Toronto walking tour

Want something that’s a bit lighter on the wallet? A walking tour of some of the city’s most popular attractions will offer “pay only what you can” options. After you’re done exploring Graffiti Alley and the rest of the city’s interesting walking attractions, feel free to tip the guide based on how good you thought the tour was. After you’re done, you’ll have learned a few new things about Toronto’s interesting (and sometimes scary) history.

Sample Toronto’s famous sushi!

Want a great staycation idea for moms and dads or young couples? Do you love this classic Japanese delicacy? If so, Toronto is one of the best places outside Tokyo to do it. Here’s what you do: Rent an AirBnb or splurge a bit on a nice hotel room in the city and plan out a route to stop at four or five of the city’s most famous sushi spots. Sample a roll (or more) from each place and stop at cafe or bar after each restaurant to digest. Not only is great idea for a night out, it is a treat for your taste buds!

If you’re planning a staycation this year, then there’s no reason not to keep it as local as possible and enjoy some of Toronto’s unique opportunities. Short-term vacations are much more affordable. If you ever plan on long-term vacation, and you need affordable public storage, Migson is the answer in Ontario!
