4 Moving Supplies You Must Have for a Public Storage Move

So you’ve decided to make the move to public storage and do it all yourself. The next steps are to confirm your reservation, get as much help as you can from friends and family, and pick a day to get it all done.

Doing all of the heavy lifting yourself is not only rewarding, it saves a lot of money too. You’ll want to make sure that you have all of the same supplies that the pros would bring with them, though. So here are four moving supplies you absolutely have to have for a public storage move. We’re sure you know about boxes and blankets, but these ones might not be so obvious!

Moving Paper

If you want to get really creative, you can use clothes and other linens as padding for your fragile items, but nothing as good as general moving paper. You’ll be able to easily wrap up grandma’s fine china, those wine glasses you love, and all of your pots and pans. The paper also goes well as general box fodder to fill out an awkward sized box.

Rubber Bands

Rubber bands are like the duct tape of a moving day: they can pretty much do anything and hold anything together. You’ll need them to secure a moving pad around your tables and chairs and to help hold flimsy boxes together if you have one. One pro moving tip is to use the bands to hold your busiest doors open so you won’t have any issues with moving things in and out. Just tie the band around the handle and tie the other side around a banister or the rail outside your front door.

Mattress Bags

Our public storage units are as clean and temperature controlled as they come, but there’s no way to fully protect your mattress from the rigours of being locked up inside a room for days on end; that is, unless you use a mattress bag! By sealing up your mattress, you protect it from dust, dirt, mold, and stains and keep it fresh for whenever you need it. Migson has a cover for any type of mattress you sleep on.

A Lock

Last but not least comes the lock that will go on your storage unit. We can’t tell you how many times folks end up at one of our Ontario locations without one. Don’t worry, we’ve got plenty in case you need one. The only thing you have to do is remember where the key is.

Doesn’t matter if you’re moving your things into storage temporarily while you move or for the long-term, you’ll want to have these four necessary supplies. In case you’ve forgotten any, Migson Public Storage has you covered! Just stop into one of our Ontario locations and let us know what you need.
