3 Tips for Storing Clothes and Jewellery

A public storage unit is the perfect solution for storing your household items, furniture, and even outdoor equipment and cars, but most people around Ontario use our premises to store a the basics.

Clothing and jewellery are two of the most common items that make up the contents of the boxes our clients haul through the gates. They are also two of the most difficult to store.

Don’t worry, we’ve been doing this a long time. Use these three tips for storing clothes and jewellery to make sure you never run out of space or lose your favourite shirt!

Use buttons with your earrings

If you think shopping around for that perfect set of earrings that will make everyone jealous is hard, just try storing them. Most people will use a jewelry box, but sifting through the box and untangling each piece is a nightmare, and more often than not, earrings will go missing.

There’s a magical solution: buttons! Large buttons will usually have four holes in the centre. Use these holes to hook earrings through and keep them together for safekeeping and easy access.

Cover your shoes with shower caps

Storing shoes for long periods of time leads to a few problems. For one, if you’re using a suitcase, chances are it will get dirty. And, if you’re storing for long periods of time, they’ll end up smelling a bit musty. A shower cap will keep your suitcase or bag clean and help keep your shoes smelling fresh for when the spring rolls around and you can bring them out again.

Fold dress shirts the same way you bought them

Dress shirts are folded on display to save space and increase appeal. If you fold them the same way you bought them, you’ll save yourself a lot of space in your boxes. Fold them with the collar up and roll a belt up inside the collar to hold its shape. If you really want a packing hack, though, hang your clothes on hangers and slip a garbage bag around. Poke holes in the bottom for the hanger hooks to go through and wrap a rubber band around them to keep them together.

Storing clothing and jewellery is cumbersome, but with these three hacks you’ll make your life a whole lot easier. Looking for affordable public storage across Ontario? Migson Public Storage is a safe bet for quality, affordable, and secure storage units in five locations across the province!
